Building independent media to counter political interference

De European Federation of Journalists organiseert in het kader van het project “Building independent media to counter political interference” twee webinars, eentje op 19 en een tweede op 20 april.
As you have witnessed in recent years, journalists and media organisations in Europe have been facing unprecedented political pressure, especially during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. To reduce the potential harm on media independence caused by various political pressures, the webinars aim to gather committed organisations, including journalists’ unions and associations and policy-makers defending media independence, to find ways and mechanisms to counter political interference in media and to maintain the independence of media in Europe.
We can already confirm a number of distinguished experts that will be speaking during the webinars. Among others, we will be welcoming MEPs from Hungary (Anna Donath), Romania (Ramona Strugariu) and Estonia (Yana Toom) and a representative of the cabinet of Commissioner Vera Jourova, Vice President for Values and Transparency at the European Commission; researchers Dr. Vaclav Stetka and Marc GruberElda Brodi from the Centre for Media Pluralism and Freedom; as well as members of the EFJ from Belarus, Turkey, North Macedonia and more.
